AUTHORs: John Ryan Services: Tax, Transfer Pricing Date: 09/09/2021

Matheson has today been named both Irish Tax Firm of the Year and Irish Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year by the International Tax Review (ITR) at the ITR EMEA Tax Awards 2021.  Matheson remains the only Irish law firm to be named as its National Transfer Pricing and Tax Firm of the Year by the International Tax Review for a second year in a row.

The International Tax Review EMEA Awards are widely recognised as one of the benchmarks for excellence in the field of international tax advice.  They have taken place annually since 2005 and recognise the achievements and developments by international tax professionals from the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region over a 12-month period.  Matheson was chosen from a shortlist of the country’s largest law and accounting firms following a comprehensive client and peer research process, indicating outstanding performance in the tax law area over the last 12 months.

Matheson, which has the largest tax team of any Irish law firm, represents many of the leading international companies and financial institutions operating in and from Ireland.  Matheson is also the only Irish law firm to have partner-level tax expertise on both coasts of the United States through our offices in New York, Palo Alto and San Francisco.

Over the past year, our Tax Group has advised on a number of successfully completed public and private M&A deals, restructurings and loan-origination transactions, many of which required innovative approaches.  Matheson’s transfer pricing practice continues to expand with the team advising on an increased volume of transfer pricing audits, advanced pricing agreements and the recent changes to the Irish transfer pricing rules.

John Ryan, Chair of the Tax Department, Matheson, commented: We are delighted to once again be acknowledged as having the leading tax advisory and transfer pricing practices in Ireland, especially by such a prestigious and international publication as the International Tax Review.  To receive these accolades, and for the second year in a row, is a testament to the hard work undertaken by our excellent team here in Matheson, as well as an endorsement of the innovation shown by our clients.”

Mark O’Sullivan, Tax partner, Matheson, commented:  It is an honour to be recognised by the International Tax Review for these two awards again this year.  They are recognition for the cutting-edge advice we have provided on cross-border transactions and complex transfer pricing issues over the past year, and we are very grateful for the opportunities presented by our clients to us which allow us to work on such deals.
