Our Experience

Matheson's Private Equity team, led by eight partners, advise a host of leading international and domestic private capital investors including Advent International, Astorg, Bain Capital, BC Partners, CVC, EQT, Lead Edge Capital, Macquarie, Towerbrook Capital Partners and Waterland Private Equity.

Our experience in alternative investment funds and on the establishment of Investment Limited Partnerships ("ILPs") also sets us apart. Matheson has advised on more than 40% of the ILPs established to date in Ireland.  Our specialist team advise on alternative investment funds investing in life settlements, property, currencies, commodities, bank loans, private equity, other hedge funds and on all hedge fund strategies including long/short, event driven, arbitrage, global macro, distressed debt and multi-strategy amongst others.  Our market-leading expertise on AIFMD includes advising on the first AIFM authorisation in Europe, the first inward AIFMD management passport into Ireland and we have advised numerous funds on their transition to AIFMD. We have also advised a leading global manager of healthcare royalty investments on the establishment of Irish collective investment schemes and in relation to the use of Irish domiciled funds for pharmaceutical royalties, musical royalties and other royalty based assets. Our Commercial Real Estate investment team, led by six partners, advise the full range of property investment vehicles (including corporate entities, co-ownerships, partnerships, limited partnerships, ILPs, ICAVs and REITS) acquiring and financing real estate in all sectors of the market, including leading investors such as ARES, Kennedy Wilson, La Francaise Group, Macquarie, Oxley Holdings and Varde.

Matheson's Energy and Infrastructure Group continues to advise the largest sponsors and PE, infrastructure, pension and insurance funds on their investments and financings in the Irish energy and infrastructure sector. Some of our recent experience includes advising on transformational projects such as Asterion's acquisition of a majority stake in the National Broadband Ireland, Partners Group's investment in the Greenlink 500MW electricity interconnector and listed renewable energy fund ORIT (and its investors) on its acquisition and acquisition financing of the 200MW Ballymacarney solar project from Statkraft, the largest solar park to be constructed to date in Ireland. In recent years, Matheson has advised sponsors and lenders on over 2GW renewable and conventional power plant developments, including over 1GW of onshore wind farm developments.
