Connections at Matheson

Conor Healy

I am an associate in the International Business Group at Matheson and am vice-chairperson of the inaugural UCC Dublin Alumni Chapter Committee.  I joined the firm initially in 2012 as a summer intern from UCC before completing my training contract as a solicitor in Matheson.

Looking back since I qualified as a solicitor, my connections with UCC have always been very important, as it provided the springboard for my opportunity in Matheson and also equipped me with the knowledge and skills for my career in law.  For me, the attraction of UCC was the breadth of opportunities it offered, and the incredibly diverse and engaging student body.  My experience at Matheson has been a continuation of these values and opportunities, in seeking to recognise diversity of talent and the importance to succeed and flourish so that you can be your best.

For these reasons, working to maintain and build new relationships with UCC alumni within the firm, and outside, led to my involvement in the establishment of the UCC Dublin Alumni Chapter Committee.  The primary objective of the new Dublin Chapter is to develop the Dublin alumni network and foster linkages between UCC and its alumni based in Ireland's capital.  The Chapter works closely with Alumni and Development in UCC to deliver a programme of events for graduates in the Dublin region.

To mark the establishment of the Dublin Chapter, a virtual launch will take place on 3 March, 2021 with a key note contribution from An Taoiseach and guest speakers Dee Forbes (Director-General of RTÉ), Dyane Connor (RTÉ Journalist), Professor John O’Halloran (Interim President of UCC) and Dr. Catherine Day (Former Secretary General of the European Commission).

The network will initially meet online with a view to having a variety of alumni-led events and activities in the near future.  It promises to be a great event and hopefully an exciting new initiative for all UCC alumni in Dublin!
